Lottomatica decided to commit a survey on Problem Gambling to Interuniversity Center for Research into the genesis and development of Pro-social and Anti-social Motivations, that gathers the research departments of the most important Italian universities ("La Sapienza" from Rome, "Federico II" from Naples and the Catholic University "Sacro Cuore" from Milan)

• Estimate the prevalence of problem gambling from a representative sample of the Italian population of gamblers
• Identify the distinctive characteristics of problem gamblers
• Identify the most significant protection and risk factors for problem gambling
